anyone knows where to get those unique kind of seahorse or has anyone caught wild seahorses b4

The only seahorse that you can get now is Comes, Kudas and Reidi, occasionally you can get spinosissimus and barbouri... The demand here is not very high, last time when WaterCircle(Not in retail anymore) and CF bought in breviceps and abdominalis, the sale is not very good, there is only a handful keeping last time and not to mention a few, I think difficult to find 1-2 seahorse gurus still keeping..

Are there any lfs which sells more affordable captive bred seahorses? I bought 4 in February from a lfs in Chinatown and they all refused to eat. 3 have since died and I think the last one won't last too long. Unless it's captive bred ones, I don't want to buy them anymore.

Aquarium 3 - 250 liters with sump and refugium

Jebao DC 6000 pump with speed controller

Skimz skimmer

AI Hydra 52 HD

Hailea HS-66A (1/4 hp) chiller

Maxspect Gyre

TLF Phosban reactors with Phosban

Tunze nano osmolator

Marine Magic Triplet Dosing

Aquarium 1 - 27 litres

Atman HF-0600 HOB filter

Maxspect Razor Nano 60W (10,000 K)

AOL 60 litres chiller

Tunze Nano Osmolator

From my experience, there is no such thing as affordable captive bred seahorses. They are difficult to raise, expensive to feed, and take a long time maturing. And they are not easy to sell, because of their specialized requirements, so there are not many

So called affordable captive bred seahorses are raised in net pens in the sea. These are raised mostly for the TCM trade but as pets while being easier to feed, they still harbor the same wild parasites that make seahorses so difficult to keep.

True tank-raised seahorses are not exposed to such wild pathogens and they are raised 100% in closed systems, which is more costly but guarantees better health & better survivability.

Hi Fuel,

I am unable to pm the following message to you because the system showed that you are unable to receive any new messages.

Anyway, I am quite interested to try out some tank raised seahorses (a pair of male and female) but hope you can help to clarify my queries below for my consideration:

  • How much is the H. zosterae if it is not $150?
  • Which of the seahorse species e.g. H. reidi, zosterae, kudas, is more colourful and easier to keep in a small setup?
  • What would be the size of the seahorses when they arrive?
  • Are they captive bred or tank raised?
  • How long would it take for them to be sent over (I probably need about a month or two to setup a tank for it)?

Thanks.

Do any bros here made any progress in long term sustainability of seahorse aquariums? I'm still keen to try them because there's something really unique about them compared to other fishes. I haven't much that many posts on seahorses and really hope there's a revival of our interest in it. Thanks.
