My 8 gallon nano which is two months old. I have a yellow tail damsel, maroon clown and a pink/yellow fish which i dunno the name. Wanted a royal grammar initially but no stock so ended up buying this fish. Corals wise there are mushrooms, purple star polyps, button polyps, fingers. Please correct me if i get the coral names wrong. Others are some sea grapes and feather dusters.

Chiller fan placed under the feeding lid. I built a platform under the feeding lid using a toy that i was playing with when i was four years old (17 years old this year). I then cable tie the cooler fan onto the platform.

This is a boyu protein skimmer. I sawed off the brackets on the skimmer so that it could fit into the chamber.

Nice tank bro.

That fish is called skunk dottyback if I am not wrong. A fiesty little fellow.

LCK brings Royal Gramma in quite often. 2 red notes each but I do not think you can add that it anymore.

Good job on modding the skimmer into the IOS.

It is good to be disciplined to stick to a low bioload. Most of us (me included :heh:) could not resist the lure of adding more fish, so kudos to you.

What is the temperature that you can achieve with the Dymax fan when the lights are on?

Hahas. I can resist buying fish BUT not corals. For a nano reef like mine, if i fill it with many corals, will it overload?

nope.... as long as there are no aggressive species and no chemical warface....

Wait, are you corals fake or real? I am thinking of getting some fakes until the right colour comes into local stock. Any how buy can die. Any clue where to get fake ones?

The corals in my african cichilid tank (fresh water)are fake while the corals in my marine tank are real. I usually get my fake corals from Nanyang Sea View located at Jalan Kayu Farmway. They sell fake corals at lower prices compared to other stores. However, the fake corals they bring in nowadays are limited. Thus, now i go to Lorong Harlus Farmway where there is a large freshwater farm which sells many accesories. They have cheap fake corals, both hard and soft ones. They even have the big blocks of fake corals. One piece of fake coral should not cost more than $9.00. Anything more than that are considered expensive.

The liquid stuff (green tea or kopi-0) is ok as you have a low bio-load. You may want to tune your tuner a little to make the "green tea" thicker but with the bio-load that you have, it will be ok at the moment. I will hold on buying any more livestock until 2 - 3 months later and the corals will grow or you will have more ideas how you want to evlove your tank. I think the current setup it already satisfying and it will be a joy to maintain this for a while. See you at XMSS.

Hahas. Seeya:D Now i have some a chaeto compartment in the display tank. I placed them in some black netting. The nitrates are now under control. Planning to get some xenia corals as well as i heard they do absorb nitrates for photosynthesis. I also heard that they do host clownfish.

Updates. My purple star polyps have never fully opened. However when i added the chaeto and left the tank running for 12 hours, i woke up in the morning only to see all my purple star polyps swaying in the water. I guess the chaeto has done quite a good job in absorbing the nitrates within the 12 hours. I will continue to monitor to see if the nitrates can be brought down to even lower levels.

UPDATES:

My tank has gone through quite a major change.

1) The blue sponges are gone. Decided to give them up because they require quite a bit of care.

2) The green gonios are gone also. Placed them up for adoption because they were doing quite badly in the tank.

3) Added a 6 line wrasse, a purple fish (i donno the name), a purple dottyback, zoas, and some red stuff that takes nitrates (i donno the name). Went to Jireh and the boss recommended me all these stuff. I told him about my concerns with nitrates and he told me not to worry as these things have low bio load. Currently the skunk dottyback has been bullying the wrasse and the purple dottyback. Both of the victims are in hiding and i hope then can be friends soon.

4) Started using additives. Carbonate, magnesium and calcium. The boss at Jireh told me that it will help my corals and coraline to grow. The additives were not that expensive so i bought them.

5) Added a led because i felt that the tank isnt bright enough. Nanyang Seaview had only 1 led left so bo bian i took one only. Planned for 4. I was thinking if i can actually buy more powerful florescent tubes? I am now using Dazs PL-18W.

6) Added a mini filter at the back of the rocks. I stripped the filter leaving only the pump and aimed it at the chaetos. The chaetos are not getting enough flow i guess cause they are not growing fast despite lots of light given.

Please advise me on the lighting issue. If possible can also let me know the names of the stuff which i recently bought?

I found the answer regarding the lights. I went back to the farm where i got the tank from. They told me that it is impossible to increase the intensity of the light without modifying it. Thus, i will be getting more of the LED spot lights to help brighten the tank. Thanks.
