SRC Member stevenchia Posted August 14, 2012 Author SRC Member Share Posted August 14, 2012 +1 .... i thought ur not supposed to mix them, specially if your tank is not really big ... are ur mandarins pellet eaters or just pods ? they eat pods. i got too many pods.. and the old mandrinfish i had is getting too fat. so just get another. yup agreed that tank normally will be not enough to have pods... but i think my tank should be able to sustain 2 mandrin. Any other considerations, i will take note. thanks. nice to have u in my thread. Do they fight? mandrinfish are shy and slow swimmers. they dont fight with each other. other fishes dont quite bother them. as i see in my tank. SRC Member stevenchia Posted August 14, 2012 Author SRC Member Share Posted August 14, 2012 space wise, i got plently of space behind. they normally roam everywhere even going vertical. As my back drop has plently of space for them to swim on 2 sides. Thank you for ur comments. I just using the cheapest and affordable equipments. Anyone can do that.. 1. Weekly saltmix with 50% change. 2. Lighting 12hrs of t5 x 8tubes(Aquazonic - Blue x4, White x4) 3. Artica chiller 1/10 4. BM nano skimmer Sorry forgot to add that i was using redsea coral pro salt later i changed back to normal red sea salt.. Saw results in tank not much difference. SRC Member poomoon Posted August 15, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted August 15, 2012 mandrinfish are shy and slow swimmers. they dont fight with each other. other fishes dont quite bother them. as i see in my tank. food is one thing, but fighting - yes they do bro, with their likes (not with other fishes), even if they are slow. and believe me, when they fight, it's even much harsh than others, coz they tend to use they're special lips to bite and grip hard, and don't let go, and you'd see the other mandarin squirming slowly but can't get off. keep your fingers crossed .... it's still possible i asked LFS before if i can keep a target mandarin, but i do have a dragonet one as well, and was advised 'maybe', but better not. best to keep at most mated pair only i think. Finger cross... haha i'm also not sure also if that's a good idea ... i've tried to introduce a 3rd mandarin to my mated pair previously ... ended up selling the mandarin away. i tried adding another male, always bullied by the paired-male. SOLD. tried adding another female (harlem?), bullied up by the paired-female. SOLD. maybe will be ok for a 4-5 footer. SRC Member BFG Posted August 15, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted August 15, 2012 Your setup uses simple equipment yet you achieve result that I could not. Other than the equipment you listed and your maintenance regime, do you feed your coral and what do you feed them with?
