SRC Member sjsheng Posted January 7, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted January 7, 2004 where can i get this refractometer from?? and how much will it cost... i expect it will cost around $40-$100... any bro know where can i get this?
SRC Member Chris Posted January 7, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted January 7, 2004 Cannot see your pic but refractometer is normally not so cheap...about $200+. Can get from Petmart. Quote I think (marine) therefore I am

lightningstrike
measure specific gravity u mean??? that's a hydrometer! SRC Member Benz... Posted January 7, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted January 7, 2004 A refractometer does the same thing and it is more accurate than a hydrometer... The cost for one would range between 150 ~ 280 depending on the brand and where you get it from...
SRC Member hotsoup Posted January 7, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted January 7, 2004 If u happen to measure SG with hydrometer in different water temperture, readings will vary. Retrometer will provide a more constant and accurate reading regardless of water temperture. That's why the price is so..much apart Quote 2ft cube with 2.5 sump 400w MH with 6 x 24w blue T5 Hydor wavemaker controller Aquatronica controller Daikin compressor with double coil RM CR H&S out sump skimmer
SRC Member Tanzy Posted January 7, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted January 7, 2004 The refractive index of water is affected by density of the water which is affected by temperature therefore even when using a refractometer you must note the temperature to convert S.G. into salinity. If you are interested in this phenomenen, you can search on Lorentz-Lorenz relation which describes the relationship between refraction of light and the density of a translucent body.
