Guess every one knows how to get/make DI water.. but how long do you all need to fill up a 60L blue drum full of DI water ?

depends on the setup.. but for my 5 stage process, it takes me an hour to make 25L of pure water.

Good DI resin should give you 0 ppm.

Think bro sunny03 is trying to find out how long it takes for stage filters to treat water. He took a mere one hour to reduce Tds reading of 60 plus to 4 within an hour for 60l of water. If he treat slightly longer, it is likely to hit zero. This is faster as compared to 25l of water via 5 stage filtering. Yes, there are many grades for di resin, some change colour when exhausted, some can last longer, etc.

agree that good resin should give 0 ppm and dont release PO4.

been using this grade of resin for a long time and it does reduce to 0 ppm.

within 1hr it reduce to 4 ppm ... and amount of resin use is 4 cups of small KFC mash potato cntr. the highest amount of water treated with this method is around 240L..

fast and get the job done...

Both My drum cOmes with float. Both takes a couple Hours and stop when done. My pressUre reading at 60.

1. cut some slots at the container...

2. cover them with fine mesh to prevent the resin from coming out

3. cut a hole at the cap and attach to the outlet of the pump must be tight fit

4. pour the resin into the container and screw the cap on

5. put the pump into the water drum and fill it up with tap water

within hrs (depend on your water vol) it should turn to zero reading

today is my 3rd time treating the water with 4 cups of small KFC mash potato cntr from the day i first created this post..

total water treated 180L today with out changing the resin...

The fine mesh is used to cover up the slots or holes or whatever you cut in the bottle to let the water out. It is there to prevent the resin from flowing out of the bottle if I understand correctly.

Hi Senoir,

I have try using your above DIY DI water method and result is immediate and within an hour, my TDS meter from 6 to 0. Does that mean I have successfully filter my tap water to DI water. Do I need to add Anti Chlorine. I also follow your recommended media. Do I need to run thru additional other media purification before I can use the water as Top up.

Yes u hv to add antichlorine as your water had not went thru carbon filter

Rem to add a prefilter before your carbon so your media can last longer.cheers

I think by not using carbon will exhaust the resin faster. Using the proper filteration will save u more using the resin. Of cos the faster flow you want, will exhaust the resin faster. I not expert but pls correct me if Im wrong.

My DIY setup as exactly copy from the above and the Tap water will run thru the ION exchange than follow into the Activated carbon. So it is like 2 stage purifying.

However, the question here is which stage to run first. Madpet advise was to run Carbon before the ION. But I did the reverse and the results still measuring as zero.

With or without carbon depends on personal preference. I don't see any different having run through carbon.... If you want your resin to

last longer get a better type of resin ... Brand and grade of the resin really make a difference..
