Finally had a 100 litres quarantine tank. bought some new fish.

Had adjusted the Salinity to 1.016 in the tank.

Should I add copper treatment to prevent ich or just keep the salinity low will do?

In either case how long should they be in the quarantine tank?

to be safe....put in for a full ich cycle time....not sure how long is the ich cycle...about 14 days? but if kiasu...leave the fishes in for 3 weeks...if no spots...then put in main tank liao..hehe

Just wondered if the low salinity is enuff to kill most of the parasites.

I will keep the fishes in the tank for 2 weeks and observed like you advised.

If any disease has to appear it should appear already. Else should be quite safe. Phew don't have to worry abt whitespot outbreak in main tank if I follow this strictly.

yeah...it is important to quarantine otherwise big headache...

but i am not well versed in quarantine techniques..maybe other bros here can give you better advice

Would advise not to add copper if you already lower the salinity.

You may kill your fish from stress than from ICK.

I guess only add copper if the fish already have ich. Else I just quaratine for 2 weeks with lower salinity will do.

Should I raise the salinity back to normal levels or just leave it at 1.016 for the whole of 2 weeks?

Slowly raise back the salinity level 1 ~ 2 days before you put them back into your main tank.

Raising your salinity too fast can stress/kill the fish.

and also try to test your PH in both tanks to ensure they match...otherwise when u transfer the fish over...can genna PH shock

cham.... I setup a drip system and took abt 3 hrs to acclimise them to the low salinity, hopefully not too fast lol.
