Return to tank from sump (power failure)

I have a pump in my sump tank for the water return back to my main tank.

If the power fails or the pump goes out, how does one stop the water

from syphoning back to the sump tank through the return line?

Drill a hole in the return pipe above or slightly below the waterline, so then the siphon can be broken. Alternatively, you can use a check valve.
