Hi Bros...

My tank has a white spot outbreak. Currently I remove all my fishes and left the tank alone cycling without any inhabitants just to starve the parasites. Just my opinion if by lowering down the salt salinity of the saltwater, will it kills the parasites faster since mine is a fowler tank.

Thx in adv bros...

Lowering the salt salinity of the tank (hypo treatment) is effective which you do not have any invert or coral left in the tank , this could be the fastest way for the parasites to die off. Alternatively you can also increase the water temperature up to speed up the cycle .

Lower salinity down to 1.011. Leave it for about 1-2 weeks you should be rather safe. Slowly raise the s.g back to 1.015-1.016 to keep your fish later. At that salinity not many parasites can survive.

Always something more important than fish.

If you leave your tank fish-less for about 28 days;

All the ich parasites will die off as they is no host for them.

Then your tank is consider ich-free at that point in time.

(-_-) Happy will do ... (o_o)

Get a uv light bro. E bigger voltage e better...

For uv light what's the best water flowrate that goes into the uv cannistet bro. Theoretically the lower the better as to hv maximum exposure to the light or is there a fix rate that is suitable for uv application.

Thanks bro.. I'm thinking of a faster way to kill the parasites as my hospital tank is too small to contain all my fishes. Afraid the fishes might strezz out.. :ThanxSmiley:

Bros Fuel & HM... at those lower levels, will it also kill off the beneficial bacteria in the tank. Ofcoz my main concern is the parasites lah bro..

If you want to speed up the process ;

1) Rise up the temperature to speed up the process of the parasites circle.

2) Do a major water change

3) clean the substrate / rock

4) Run a suitable size UV light / depending of the size of your UV using a slower flow of water through the UV will help to eliminate the parasites in the water column.

5) Optional : Run a Ozone or Diatom filter ( If you have ).

Lowering the salinity of the water will not kill all the bacteria in your tank, but i would re-introduce more bacterica into my tank when i add back my fish and check the ammonia level .

HTH :)

Thanks all Bros.. seems that there are quite a few options to nail down these parasites.. :score:

Another point to note.... Flukes might also cause the fish to scratch jus like ick.

Hypo will not remove them.

since hyposalinity may not kill other parasites other than flukes, is it safe to assume that leaving the tank fishless for 4-6 wks is the most effective way to kill most parasites in the tank?

i would do that if time allow . This would 100% ensure that all these parasites are gone before adding back the fish.
