Hi guys. I'm still looking for an FOC tank. Hope I'm not irritating any of the senior reefers.

If FOC really cannot I don't mind paying about $50.

Hope to find one with a cabinate and sump.

Feel free to message or call me any time as im having holidays now for 2 weeks.

So sad, I missed the foc 3ft tank, cab and sump a few days ago :(

Well bro u see your mum is more experience than you! Just kidding man. Sorry for calling u a newbie. Anyway she was right. U risk getting a cracked 2nd hand tank. Well done, good decision. I think the best way to convince your dad is by having a well maintained tank. Do not rush to buy new stocks n let your tank cycle completely n do not overstock too soon.

If u managed a beautiful tank maybe your dad might get hooked too and can even sponsor u more. Haha.

Before buying equipment for your tank, you can check below to calculate how much you'll be adding to your dad's monthly electical bill. Always seek approval before purchase to avoid giving him heart attack. ;)

P.S. An IOS tank will typically consume less power than a sump tank system since it requires a less powerful return pump. And generally, a FOWLR consumes less than a LPS, which in turn consumes less than an SPS tank due to the equipment they need. Some ideas in case you need to work out a compromise with your dad.

Put ur tank near window where the sun can shine in.. that will save some lightning cost.... but be aware of the heat. cos that will increase ur cooling bills if u use a chiller.

Normally it's not adviceable as algae bloom very fast under natural SUN light and morerover it's not pleasure for viewing too.

Haha u should have seen my previous tank. So nice la but when he see the electricity bill the tank become ugly haha.

about the over stocking no worrys I'm the slow and steady kind. For my previous tank I let it cycle naturally before even adding a damsel to test haha. And then Waited about 3 months before adding any other fish or corals haha!

Wa power la thanks bro. I was looking everywhere for this. I remember seeing it some where before but couldn't seem to find it.

IOS tank is the one with the sump at the back or side right? What does the I O S stand for? Never heard of it haha. I only know it's a bit not user friendly cause hard to clean as compared to a sump. Plus the sump will help increase water capacity of the tank and easy to hide and put all the equiptment there.

Thanks for the help bro!

Well, nobody say you cannot have a 4ft tank with 1 to 1.5ft partition off as IOS sump. Then you'll have decent room to perform regular maintenance. You'll have to be a little creative with regards to hiding this section of the tank though. All in all, I'd have to agree that this kind of design is more suitable for FOWLR setup as you only need filtr wool/sock, protein skimmer, a couple of bags of carbon & Phosguard between baffles, & a return pump.(Can also add a small compartment to culture chaeto if you want.) But total power comsumption can be limited to only 2 pumps + lighting on a timer switch. Relatively green & don't have to worry about flooding during power outage.
