So I can get a AC to DC 12V 1A Power Adaptor to power it?

Or should I get this driver?

Hi, yr LED shld be DC input.... DC power adapter will do..

Try "Continental Electronic Enterprise".. Unit #B1-25, SimLim Tower.. look for mr TH Khoo.. u can consult him or his bro...or contact them @ 62922032/62934674.. They do carry above LED...

But personally, I used above design.. Potential of lights detach from aluminium bar/heatsink in salt water environment if did not house in a casing...Will show u some pics later on...

Hi Terry,

LED driver will be better in term of current stability if you are going for good and expensive LED.

For normal LED, DC adapter should be suffice liao .

Hi, Terry, Pls find below the similar LED as u looking for, I was using 5W previously.. Yr unit is 3W and U can actually get 5W or 10W which is available.. Depends yr application....

Try housed it with plastic tube casing or any other case... to prevent from oxidation accelerated @ salt environment... Below unit ~1.5 year.. as u can see the LED strip begin to detach itself from aluminium bar... Cheers..

Yup,DC input.. 12-14v... I will try to look for them.. how much you bought yours at? My lights will be screwed on the under the cabinet. So maybe it will not detach so fast? (trying to delude myself).. but housing in acrylic housing will decrease the light output bah..

I am thinking if I can use the driver to drive more of the Led.. Becos it is cheaper this way.. lol.. the 12v Dc is around 5 dollars also.. and the input for the driver is plug to powersocket.

Similar but this unit is 12w that is why I am interested, there is another high power on at 16w..

I will see if my tank will have salt splash anot.. if not den I will just get a acrylic tube for the led strip..

The acrylic tube is to protect the LED's... What is yr objective? for coral growth or Visual effects only? I found this types of LEDs just good enough for visual effects or some Zoas with short distance...

If u need this for corals, I suggested those 3W came with lens or amplifier.. Cheers..

Very hard to control salt crystallization in long run... The best is to case them.. 12V or 12W? 12W or 16W is very powerful... You might need high rating power supply.. If too hot, the selection of acrylic tube need to take note too, probably need to add heat sink... But, I only see 10W Max strip this type so far.. Cheers..

Oh.. I am getting from Dealextreme, which I think is based in HK.. I will check out the shop before buying from Dealextreme..

I am using for zoas growth, I think 12w is good, I am using 3x3w for the zoas currently.. doing good..

I use a blue strip of led encase in glass tubing for moonlight. The tubing comes in acrylic or glass. Powered by laptop adaptor. Must see voltage rating and amp.

I'm not a real expert in Led... especially electrical stuff but just to share...

I bought Led strips at Sim Lim Tower about a month ago and fix them up to my normal flourescent Aquazonic Light Fixture. So far, I've been getting good results. Coralline Algae growing double the speed compared to the previous lighting and my Monti which was bleaching before is now recovering. All within a month after using the led light. Maybe becoz my tank is shallow. Measuring only 2ft x 1ft x 1ft. As for visual enhancement, yup its producing nice decent shimmering effect.

Please ignore the unclear surface on the led...its actually the transparent plastic casing to cover the led from the saltwater spray. decided to use this fixture coz there wasnt any salt crystal forming on the inside of the fixture before after more than 6 months of using it. Led is powered by DC Adapter.

I'm planning of doubling the number of led strips on the fixture though... will there be any difference?

Oh and it cost me $100 for an DC adapter, 3 strips of Led Lights (2 x pure white and 1 x Blue). Each Strip is 1m long. but end up using only about half of each strips. The other Halves are spares...which i plan to add in if its beneficial.

For those who are familiar with dealextreme.com, theres a 3 part vid in youtube about a guy that used led and parts bought from dealextreme to make his own Diy Led for his Tank. Comes with direct links to the exact parts he bought and used.

yup2. his is 100w LED... which i checked the price and calculated... $200++ if i'm not wrong. The LEDs that i got from sim lim... was told 1m of the strips is at 14w... since i took only half of the whole length... 21w? haha! not sure if calculation is correct. anyways, i wouldn't recommend mine to anyone tat has a tank deeper than 1ft or those who are planning to keep sps..(theres just one small monti in mine which is doing fine now). Definately not the best diy leds... but does the job i guess. Any feedback?

That is very expensive for a QT and Frag tank.. LOL... Theoretically and mathematically, it is correct... LOL... I am using for 1 ft height so not looking for very powerful light... If the price is cheaper here, I would just buy rather than wait for shipping from HK... Your DIY is not bad looking quite a decent LED..

haha yeah...expensive. oh since you're looking for leds for 1ft then i think it might work. you can head down to sim lim tower level 1... its a really2 small shop right beside the stairs for the back exit. the shop is run by a man and an old auntie. you can buy all the parts needed and they can fix up everything for you. All you need to do is tell them the length you want and rig it up into a fixture like how i did. oh and they take only cash payment enjoy your leds!
