I am currently using a Teco680 for my 4ft. As I am using an old pump for the chiller, the flowrate now is very slow, estimated about 300L/h or less. So my chiller work quite hard especially when Mh on.

Just to check what flowrate pump are you using as I am thinking of changing the pump. Any brand to recommend as well?

Thanks. ;)

in that case your water heats up faster than the small amount of extremely cold water from the chiller....thats why work so hard...

use too strong a pump...and the water flows pass the chiller without getting chilled enough.....

so either way abit problem.....i think they recommend about 380 to 400gallon/hr flow through this chiller...meaning about 1400l/hr...

i am using a sicce extrema to move water through it....although it is rated at 2500l/hr...but after overcoming height head loss and hose pressure loss, should be around the chiller's recommended flow rate..

I use an Eheim 1060 without problems.

heard fr someone that this model actually moderates the flow to 800l/h so a stronger pump will not make a difference. unable to find any info on recommended flow rate for teco. any bros know where it can be found?

In this case maybe I will try using a 1500L/hr pump (since i have 1 extra) and observe whether the flowrate is being moderated.

slightly :off:

what is the recommended way to connect up a chiller? i have seen various methods like:

1. tank through pump to chiller and back to tank

2. pump in sump last section to chiller and back to sump last section, where another pump will deliver water back to tank.

3. pump in sump last section to chiller and back to tank.

4. pump from sump second section to chiller to last section of sump

i am thinking of option 3 but if teco really moderate the flow rate, then my desired flow rate for my tank (looking at 2000l/h) will not be achieved unless i do another return to make up for the reduce flow rate. option 1 will need another set of piping :(

anyone using option 2 or 4? will the water warm up before returning to tank, ie cooler water is just circulating in sump and only partial return to tank.

thanks!
