Hey guys some of u may know i'm looking for an foc 2ft nano tank.

Ps. 'still looking' so if u have a unused tank lying around that is in good condition u know who to call :P

In the mean time i wanted to construct my own led lam. I've read some where that these little wonders can out shine a Metal Head Lamp and save u tones of money on your electricity bill. Is this true? If so, does any one know where i can get this LED Kits? The first place i thought of was Sim Lim Tower. About the individual LED bulbs what are the ratings i have to get to achieve the same amount of light output as a MH Lamp?

umm, even i dont know how to start one. And i think as a starter you shouldnt need one since you shouldnt start on sps so fast. The leds u need, need to be of at least 1watt. If you are on a budget, get t5 or some cheap fixture, when u gain more experience feel free to try this.

I don't think a 1 watt LED is of any use in an aquarium except for lighting up your cabinet.

the blue led bought from slt lights up quite nicely

just hope it suits the mushroom, star polyp and ricordea

Can post a picture of the LED in use?

Many LED in SLT is just for lighting up purpose.

They are not good for plant, or LPS or SPS tank.

Prolong use will result in a tank of unhealthy

LPS or SPS or plant.

Choose LED that have enough PAR value and intensity

close to that of MH at least 12 inch from the LED.

The smallest single LED should be at least 3 watt

FYI

lighted up the white led strip over the tank

on the cool white side ... no tint of yellowish at all

color to the eye should be ard T5 10k as compared to the T5 I use few years back.

placed 2 x 25 cm each with 15 led on top of my slightly bigger-than-1ft tank....

not bright enough ... maybe the make-shift eggcrate hood blocks :P

anyway will add another 2 strips when my simple & cheap clear acrylic light-hood is ready

..oh is just for testing the light and heat for a day

this led is widely available at SLT

SLT also have 3W led.. but need to electronic a bit plus cooling...

wonder if they have those little electronic project package

i only plan to keep a few small fishes, mushroom, yuma, ricodea and star polyp

hopefully this led can cham-C-tong :whistle ... till I get better replacement

good thing about this led is very low heat.... now testing to see 5-6 hours lightup will increase the temp by how much...

currently a single fan is holding the temp at 28C

main objective is to keep cost as low as possible...yet serve the purpose

else would have gone for products that cost hundreds or thousand... :P
