remember there is this tube connector (not sure what it is called) that can use to prevent back flow.

afraid when return pump spoilt the main tank water will flow back into the sump thru the pump and cause flooding as my sump is small

any idea where can I get it. thanks

It's called 1-way check valve. Below is one of the shops where you can find it.

1st thing 1st, your sump seriously needs sufficient capacity to cater to back flow volume during power outages, 'cause there's no guarantee how tightly a check valve can hold the back flow. (even a small piece of dirt can cause a leak when you needed it most.)

Try to get Y Check Valve, will have better flow rate and lesser trade off with yr flow rate compare to normal check valve... Cheers..

Check valve can also be used for IOS setup. This will prevent flooding of skimmer compartment in the IOS. During power outage without the check valve, water level in skimmer compartment may rise beyond recommended level. This may cause skimmate cup to quickly overflow when power returns.

A cheaper alternative is to drill a small hole at the output pipe. Just below the water line

I remember reading somewhere one forumer had his check valve failing due to debris trap at the ball.

Thus it isn't fully closed and water still flowing back >> "Murphy's Law".

A back up plan is to do what Eniram suggested. But again if a snail happens to the there, its again back to "Murphy's Law".

If your return pump water intake properly covered with sponge. objects shld not trap on the ball. If shld be filter on yr intake sponge. And normally routine maintenance required on sponge cleaning. I believe is more to wrong application. Cheers..
