yeah ditch it... last time I used it gave me different reading all the time... refracto is definitely WORTH it!

yayy exactly might go ahead with a more affordable one.

Guys need some advice again

is this the supposed diatoms & hair algae i should be getting (day 11) ? should i give the tank walls a good scrub and remove any excessive algae hair or simply just let it 'self destruct' until the cycling ends ?

diatoms are part and parcel of cycling, when there are excessive nutrients in the water.

Are they live rocks from a LFS ? If so, then you might have bacteria die offs if you do not provide it the "waste" it needs to feed.

Would be good to do some basic parameter checks once a week/fortnightly to ensure you have it right.
