Mini Chiller for 1 ft tank

Welcome, n.morgan.

Some things you need to take note of when using a fan:

Pros - Relatively cheap, easy to use, take up small amount of space, effective depending on the type of fans used (I personally will not recommend PC fans as they are very weak)

Cons - Cooling effect takes place via evaporation, hence regular fresh water top up is required. If this is not managed properly, swings in salinity of your water can be disastrous to your tank inhabitants. Some reefers would install an Auto Top Off system to overcome this problem, but do read up more on how it works and issues related to this type of system before taking the plunge.

If it is within your budget, an Ice-Probe should work fine with a 1ft cube.

You know IV drip? It uses the same gravity concept to replenish evaporated water.

There is a Dolphin Mini chiller that you can try, but I'm not too sure how effective it is. A Resun CL 280 would do nicely.

Will it shorten the life span of the chiller?does it have any adverse effect on the electricity bills?

My kitchen fridge also does that: kicking in & out all day long. But it has been running for eons. lol I wouldn't worry about the chiller. If it's design to chill an aquarium, we should expect it to work without much fuss. I'm more concern with the pump you need in your 1 footer to supply water to the chiller & back. It'll stand out like a giant in your relatively small tank. Do you really want that?

Aiyooo....check out this super chio setup for mini tank use. A nice conversation piece whenever you have visitors.

Saw this setup sometime ago.

TEM chillers are still not power efficient, considering the amount of power it needs. And it's running for a longer time too.

FOWLR Tank : 48"x24"x30"

Sump: 36"x18"x20"

Return Pump : Rio 32HF

Skimmer: Reef Octopus DNW-110

Lighting: 150W MH

I have used resun cl280 and hc130-a with tanks as small as 8 gallons. For chiller kicking in and out it depends on where you put inlet and outlet. If you place them too close then it will kick in and out very often. My cl280 is now left idle. Condition excellent. Interested pm me.

hi guys, im new here.. can someone recommend me a gd mini chiller? i just setup this 1 ft tank at home few days ago and the temp is 33 deg!!

fan is good but the dehydration of water will be pretty fast...

positioning of your tank also does affect the temp of the water. (try placing it at least 3-4inches away from the wall)

make sure there's allowance for ventilation around your tank.

a good and reliable brand will be arctica!!!

Some1 doesn't 1 2 do anything find an excuse,some1 1 2 do something find a mean!

how fast the water temp. rise may also depend on whether there are many high power equipment, possible?

my small nano after cooling to 26.5 using room air-con (run 3hrs) and a 10cm fan before midnight, the temp went up to 27.8 degree ard noon the next day. My led light is 18W and return pump is 7W. Maybe low power helps to slow the temp. rise  .... but from noon till evening, temp will increase to 28.5 or more if only rely on 10cm fan.

A 2 degree+ swing is it too much?

if I pump water from my little sump, ard 8 litre to the nano chiller, then back to the sump using a 400-600l pump, will the sump water all gana suck by the chiller?

how much water will be in the chiller?

or just have enough for the tubes to and back?
