guys im running a 2ft tank with a hangover filter connected to undergravel & protin skimmer. but recently my filter that link to the undergravel spoiled and i replace it with a canister with 5 layer of tray which able to contain 1500L. i was planning to run the canister for 1month plus and then change my whole tank setup to sandbed and tank away all the undergravel. i know what things are needed to be done when changing all these but is canister alone enough to filter the tank? or should i get a sum or hangover filter also?

getting a sump tank would be excellent as you would be able to access it and clean it.

A cannister filter if uncleared for sometime will eventually become a nitrate factory :)

We would much prefer a sump as a sump would be able to help us maintain our tanks better

I am not saying that a canister can't do its job? Making sure that the canister remains clean is important as there could be nitrate build up...

I suggest you do away with the undergravel system as thats for freshwater and use the canister alone to do the job as for whether if the canister is good enough to do its job, you'll have to test it out and decide if you need a stronger one or its good enough! :friends::thumbsup:

Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.

just like u, i start out a 2ft tank with a canister, slowly i found that the fish and coral is not so " happy". So i upgrade to a sump tank. it is alot better.

btw, plan before u start any change to your tank. if not u will end like like me every 2-3 month u need to change your setting or eqpument as the tank is not going as plan. waste money...

Yes thats very true if you keep buying equipments at a slow pace for say I buy this protein skimmer today and tmr I need a stronger pump kinda thing? without proper planning it gonna be like dumping money into the sea so do plan wisely!
