"Coral Spawning 2011" (S'pore coral-spawning event)

Below is a short write-up and pictures from my friend Chen Dexiang, who is a Marine Biologist at "DHI Water & Environment". These pictures were taken in Singapore waters last week. Permission was granted for me to share his pictures here on our forum. Happy Reefing everyone!

Corals are animals and, like all animals, they reproduce, abeit in a rather unusual fashion. Mass synchronous spawning is the term given to the fateful day when mutiple corals across various species and even genera release tiny packages of egg and sperm bundles into the water in a jaw-dropping, shameless display of pure primevil love.

Over the past decade, dedicated researchers from NUS have been religiously monitoring this annual event and I am fortunate and honoured to be one of the many lustful pairs of eyes this year.
