(Advice needed) How to remove Red slime

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Advice needed.

I just set up my new tank about 2 months old. Recently, I notices that the red slime (a small patch) started to spread and multiply to other rock. Need on advise on how to get rid of them without stressing the fishes inside?

There is a spike in algae growth (ammonia spike as well)in my tank, I suspect it has something to do the 'disappearance' of my clown fish weeks ago. Should I disturb the tank by removing all the rocks to search for the 'fish/body' or is there other method to control the situation?

(1) Check your water source. If from tap, filter it with DI or RO+DI.

(2) Need to increase water movement in tank using wavemaker.

(3) Install a decent protein skimmer if you do not already have one.

HI Tunicate,

(1) Check your water source. If from tap, filter it with DI or RO+DI.

I am using DI water.

(2) Need to increase water movement in tank using wave maker.

I have 2 wave makers. One pointing towards the surface for water agitation, and one position at the mid depth. Wonder if my positioning of the wave makers is wrong..

(3) Install a decent protein skimmer if you do not already have one.

I have a Protein skimmer.

Hi, I assume u using FR too.. 2 month still pretty young age..most ppl foresee this problem come and go.. due to tank immaturity ..

Reduce feeding, frequent WC to reduce nutrient and get some cleaning crew like sea cuke, abalone and some snail etc..

You can try some good reputed nutrient reduction product like ZeoVit product from RD.. Like ZeoZym, coral snow. Check with RD for more detail.... Cheers.

The 1 pointing upwards, redirect lower to maximize flow around your LR. When you do WC, try to siphon out the red slime as much as possible.
