Rather new to LED.. have been using T5 all this while.. Thinking of switching to LED. Is there any difference with respect to the penetration and spectrum?

Can i go to Sim lim to custom made blue and white LED ? Or is there different LED specs I must take note of?

Yes u can, for white best color temp 10,000k and above and blue LED with wavelength 445nm to 450nm, these 2 type of LED would be best for reef lightings. However I doubt you can find them off the shelf. If u do, pls PM me.

There r many threads on DIY LED light, u may wanna google to find put more.
