will calcium killed your fish???

Recommended Posts

Depends how much you are talking about.

Just measured my Ca levels using salifert test kit today..found it to be 510ppm..all my fishes n corals seem fine.

Reducing it to 450 though.

They will suffer from overgrowth of their skeleton and you will see their eyes shrink inside their oversized eye sockets. Their spines will poke past their skin and their fins will tear because of the overgrowth. Their teeth tends to grow too big until they can't close their mouths.

Sorry... its a joke! Just felt it was a very odd question!!! Don't take it seriously.

Seriously... you will damage your pumps first due to calcium buildup before you hurt your fishes.

It is not good to have an overdose of any single one of the many components of saltwater.

ic...

the way you describle since like you over dose a monster will start growing in the tank...

i think i will follow the instruction of adding 1 teaspoon every day when i top up water...

and slowly build up the calcium level.. before anything bad happen...

patient.. :nc:

I think 20ppm of Ca in your tank is way too impossible. wat Ca test kit are you using? My tank is about 6 months old..I only started dosing kalk about 2 months ago...and calcium plus about 2 weeks ago..and Ca measured today @ 510ppm.

Calcium can be replenished by waterchanges using newly mixed seawater....usually not sufficient to keep up with growth of hard corals and coralline algae..

Or can be replenished via adding kalkwasser..which must be dripped to prevent drastic pH swings.

Or if you are using calcium plus....it can be added manually but at a rate you are comfortable with..coz it's basically calcium chloride.

just to add in something.. i measure my dk also.. it was about 18-20dkh

any other way to reduce it???

change of water.. or let the coral slowly absorb it..

With a kH that high your calcium levels will always be low. Best that you do a water change before you replenish ur calcium

oh..hehe..paiseh about that :paiseh: ..forgot about those that use words onli..

For salifert Ca test kit no color chart..just use ur eyes..as long as you see that it's not pink anymore (light lavender or light purple) then just take it as blue. ;)
