hi all

i have a 2ft main tank with a 2ft sump tank. the 2nd chamber of my sump is now full of cheato, but i think it is too thick the light cannot reach, the bottom part keep melting.

ok my point is, since the light cannot reach so deep in(only 1-ft high). Can i make a DSB in the 2nd chamber of my sump?

If yes, how deep should the sand be? and grade 0 or 1 sand?

If no, what should i put at the bottom as i think the cheato can only reach the light at the top. maybe LR?

Use an egg crate or plastic basket to raise the chaeto to shallow water. Personally, I think the basket is easier to implement. You just need to find the right size. If the plastic material floats, just place your chaeto within. If it sinks, flip it up side down to raise the bottom of your refugium.

Note: Choose a basket with lots of holes to minimize flow restriction to your chaeto.
