Nuisance Algae

My 75gal tank with refugium is having some Nitrate problems. I do water changes regularly 17gal a week. Im having green algae on my crushed coral bed that I think is causing my Nitrate problem. When i do water changes it never gets it all and it will be green again in 2days. My Nitrite,Ammonia,and phosphates are good. Please HELP!

What water source did you use for the water change?

RO water from my local aquarium store. Wharehouse Aquarium or Petland.

My tank is fairly new. I finally got it up and running in Dec 2010. Im thinking this could be 1 reason why.

In my refugium I have a mineral mud bed with arogonite sand on top with calurpa on top of it.

Have you actually tested your Nitrate level with test kit yet? Or maybe you can try adding sandstar to clean the bed?

Yes. An API Saltwater Aquarium kit. Will a Sandstar really clean the crushed coral? I tried a goby but he died. I think it was a bad buy bc I have a Flame Pygmy Angel, Coral Beuty, Clarki Clownfish, Regal Tang, and a cleaner wrasse. Also 2 cleaner shrimp with assorted hermit crabs and snails. Ilso have a brittle star. will these be compatable with a sandstar?

To be right on it is 20. The ideal is 0. Everyone tells me that 20 is a little high

Yea thats neglect and just horrible! I personally dont have a Phosphate test but I took a water sample to the local fish store and they said my phosphate leval was good. I think they said 0. It was the lowest on the scale.

For me, recently I fed too much ended up having 100mg/l Nitrate but I have no algae problems and my sand bed surface is sparkling clean! Having 1 x monstrous sea cucumber and 2 x sandstar works wonders

would it b ur light problem? wat ur light period? wat light u using? care to share
