SRC Member ryanlio Posted March 21, 2011 SRC Member Share Posted March 21, 2011 Hi guys, Its been a while since I decomm my propagation tank due to work commitments. Now that I've got a lot more time coming back, I thought i will like to try restart a nano tank. The main concept behind this setup is to encourage Green Reefing :>. Therefore, the setup will be kept simple, economical. For a start, I'm looking to stock up with Indo pacific species. The reason being I'll like to try to not using a chiller, having species from indo will therefore be a natural choice as I researched somewhere that the waters are close to 82 - 89 Fahrenheit. This might make the setup possible. I'll appreciate if you have any advise to make my comeback, A COMEBACK.. hahah :>

SamuelTan
No not yet, as I'm a full-time student working part-time and bearing the electricity costs of my tank so i'm stocking up my 4ft tank very slowly. Currently the livestocks that I'm keeping which do well in warm water are, Hermit Crabs, Decorator Crab Damsel Blue Tang Dragon Wrasse Mandarin Goby RabbitFish Tomato Clown, Clarkii clown, Maroon Clown Cleaner Shrimps, Sexy Shrimps, Marble Shrimps Pink Knobby Cucumber, Black Cucumber SandStars Torch coral Plate Coral Sun coral Spiral/Wire Coral Blue Sponge, Yellow ball sponge Green Monti Chill pepper monti ( Still finding a suitable place for it) Green Favia BamBam, Eagle eye, normal zoas Toadstool Leather Jasmine polyp, Star polyp Been having this setup for around 3months old without any water change. Pretty much that's all, will be starting my own tank thread soon

SRC Member ryanlio Posted March 23, 2011 Author SRC Member Share Posted March 23, 2011 I've been testing the sea water temperature in my tank for the past few days. Its goes from 28.1 celcius (night) to 28.6 celcius (day). Hopefully this range is good enough for more tolerant species. :>

SamuelTan
Why don't you add a fan? 30 degs is really pushing it. I'm planning to actually, just need to find space in my sump and time to DIY. I know sps are hard to keep under such temperature but there are some which are quite tolerant to warmer waters. So far I been observing growths but no sudden deaths or anything. But my cleaner wrasse disappeared mysteriously

SRC Member BFG Posted March 27, 2011 SRC Member Share Posted March 27, 2011 Seems like a growing number of new reefer not using chiller for their tank.
SRC Member ryanlio Posted March 28, 2011 Author SRC Member Share Posted March 28, 2011 Yes BFG, Trying out without the chiller. I'm only doing mushrooms and some other higher temperature tolerant living organisms. Reckon should be ok.
