On a quiet Sunday afternoon with nothing much to do, I've done this to my NAC QQ collection cup.

BTW, both bits came from my NAC5 skimmer. Just drill hole, cut to size, silicon. Voila!

On the contrary, I shorten the tube of the drain outlet and put the stopper there. It forces me to clean the skimmer cup regularly, thus enabling better skimming efficiency. Personal preference though.

i don't wish to be a wet blanket but i think its good that it should be stated that this skimmer in almost 2 times underpowered (since its rated 25g) for your tank volume (>55g) thats why it is able to skim out as such. such skimmate would be easily removed in probably a much shorter time using an appropriate skimmer like your nac 5. when using a lower rated skimmer for a larger tank, sure one'd be able to see kopi-o daily which would lead to thinking that the skimmer is great in removing what it should but in fact the rate of removal may not be able to catch up to the what is being produced in the tank. so to all potential owners do reconsider before jumping in for this skimmer.

Yes straydum, thanks for pointing that out. BTW, I've tried a Weipro on this tank before, its performance is nowhere close to NAC QQ.

a normal weipro wouldn't match to a bm definately, unless you mod it specially :heh:

I read with attention your article.

As owner of a french material blog testing reef keeping products, I write some article on products unboxing (like for example this Aqua Excel AE ZPS 60 Skimmer http://reefandthecity.com/2012/05/08/essai-de-lecumeur-aqua-excel-ae-zps60/ ).

In fact, as you will see on my blog, I have also a nano reef with exactly the same skimmer as you : the NAC New QQ (in fact your skimmer is not a NAC QQ but a NAC New QQ).

I am going to write a review on this skimmer, but I forgot to take some picture of the unboxing . So instead of stolling your pictures, I would like your autorisation/courtesy to use them in my article ? (I was searching for unboxing picture since fiew weeks & also asked directly to bubble magus but no an answer). How do you make adjustment to the foam level? Mine bubble magus skimmer, the foam did not reach the collection cup, care to share your experience? thanks.

Sassy, if you turn the return tube, it will either increase or decrease the water level inside the skimmer

On a side note, i just got a bm qq myself, got a heckload of microbubbles currently, is there anyone experiencing the same problem as i am? or should i just let it run in hmmm...

I'm having the same issue too, lots of microbubbles, overflowing the collection cup. I've also turned the adjustment pipe to face at 3 o'clock... must i wait for 24hrs before it stabilizes ?

if the collection cup overflows it means that u need to adjust the water level. adjust the water level so that it just hits the bottom of the collection cup.

I just bought this skimmer but I am not sure what to do with the ceramic impeller shaft provided. The pump itself came with a metal shaft. Do I try to remove the metal shaft by force and replace it with the ceramic shaft?

Hello chickyduck, the impeller should be changed because the skimmer's stock impeller isn't too good as it rusts easily.

Sorry but how do I go about changing the impeller? Do I just pull the impeller out with brute force? I am worried that I might spoil the pump.
