Air Bubble

Bubbles in fresh water setup is mainly to circulate tank water, although some may find it aesthetically pleasing. However, it is too weak for marine setup. Instead, a much stronger return pump plus wave maker(s) are typically used. Total water volume circulates at approx. 10x per hour.

Just come into my mind..does anyone put air bubble for their marine tank?

Just like freshwater setup..mostly I will put some.

Not a good idea. The air bubbles bursting on top will result in lots of salt creep on your hood/lights.

Ok. Thanks for all valuable advises..

Ya..tunicate bro said strong return flow...i actually tried to control as it causes humming noise to my pipe...should I turn back to full?

My return pump is a Eheim 1264.

On wavemaker, should I position the head towards the top or bottom?

Just make sure you don't point your wave maker at any corals. I usually put up so it will create ripples n help with circulation in the tank.

Description of my humble tank

Size - 4 x 2 x 2.5 ft

Protein Skimmer - Reef Octopus OCTX 160

Return Pump - Germain Eheim pump 3400 litres/hr

Chiller - Hailea Chiller 300A

Wave Maker - Ecotech Marine MP40W

Lighting - Solarmax 4ft MH 2 x 150 watts & 2 x T5 lights

Date of Commission of Tank - 22 Dec 2010

With your tank size, I think you should not restrict your Eheim 1264 return. As for noise, have you replace the PVC piping with flexible hose? Maybe add an additional piece of foam under the pump while you're at it.

With regards to wave maker, I notice in your pics that you position it at the back wall facing right. You can actually position it either on the left or right wall to maximize the full length of your tank. Height placement depends on the type of corals you keep, & also to avoid sand storm. The way your corals react to changes in flow gives you clue on whether you're doing the right thing. ;)
