Either way will kill not only the pest but also anything else on/in the rock, harmful or beneficial. Rendering it 'dead'.

i already have rocks in my tank to seed this batch of rocks. I have boiling water bath the rocks twice and still unsure about it. Don't want any of the apitasia to get into my main tank. Do i need to sun the rocks also to make sure the apitasia is 100% dead?

don't think it is necessary but Sun it a few days to alley your fears. BTW, rocks are not the only vector for aptasia introduction to your tank.

hi bro, there r so many ways to sterilise the rocks - all the above mentioned.

For my aptasia i use a pointed knife, when u lift the rock up usually the polyp will danggle, take the knife, cut off as much as u can, then with the pointed knife (or a wire sometimes), carve into its burrow n scrape.

Make sure u clean the ap off the rock cus its quite sticky.

Happy reefing :)

but u cant boil ur zoe n sps, right?

Bro, washing is to reduce the stink? If u don't mind, sun it till it turned white is likely to kill everything, moreover u wbemusing using it so soon.

After you have cooked and sun it. Clean it manually, scrub it, Rinse well with saltwater many times before you put into your tank.

come on guys, i know aiptasia is annoying, but that doesnt really work out.

ok assuming you have a completely clean setup, so what's next?

are you going to boil and sun dry the corals you buy?

are you going to boil and sun dry the fishes you buy?

if not, the rocks that come with the coral you buy may be infested with aiptasia, the water from LFS might have floating aiptasia tissue which can grow into aiptasia.

you will get aiptasia in your tank sooner or later, so get used to it and get it under control by means of using natural predator or chemicals

Agrees, u can't guarantee. To be frank, for my 4 ft set, I used dead rocks but still got aptisia subsequently. Got a rock infested internal and removed it as killing can be achieved cos can't reach. After removing, found some more and got peppermint and copperband. Somehow gone but honestly I don't who helped me to kill them but I used to distruct peppermint cos I tried so many and not many will work. . Until I got this pair from lck and they typically patrol the tank bit now learned to eat pellet etc and my copperband also eating mysis. So some luck might be involved. If you want to ensure no aptisia, yr rock scape should allow u to remove any immediately upon spotted and kill them using kalkwasser, iodine, Joe juice, etc.

For my dead rock, I just dumped them without washing. For how long, 2 weeks should be more than enough with hot sun. Worry somemore, pour hot water or hot steam it. No Hard and fast rules. Want it cleaner, rinse and imerse in freshwater.

If you can prevent it why not. Agree that we cannot be 100% sure the pests will not get into the tank. But it is better to be safe then sorry. Boiling the LR for this case is like why people do freshwater dip for their coral.

HappY Reefing!

DO NOT run your rocks over tap water (Unless it is tap water that had been treated by RO/DI). You are introducing many chemicals (Chloramine, Chlorine, Flouride, Silicates, etc...) into the rock. Use salt water to rinse or soak.

Like what I said in my first reply - Rocks are not the only vector for pest introduction. Anything that you put into your tank has the capability of introducing pests or contaminants. However, you can prefer to kill the rock to lessen the chance of pest introduction from it.
