K-1 Media

Question: I am using a redsea deluxe skimmer on my 35gal reef. I was cleaning the skimmer housing and could not get rid of some residue trapped in the bottom part after using hot water and vinegar. So, I decided to add some K-1 media I had laying around so I added the media and gave it a shake and it released the entire residue that I could not get too. Should I keep some of the K-1 inside the skimmer when it actually runs to keep the waste from building up in the housing? Note the actual skimmed cup is separate and is removed weekly to clean.

Also I saw on you tube a bottle with K-1 media running in the aquarium - is this warranted in a reef?

this is how i integrate k1 media in my setup

i placed it in the compartment where the return skimmer pipe is

not sure of its effectiveness thou but lots of positive feedback from FW forum
