Can anyone kindly advise where is the best place in the tank for clams? Top, MIddle or on Sand bed? They don't seem to be happy when I place them somewhere in the middle sitting on life rocks. They used to be bright but now the blue isn't so vibrant as the first day I brought them home.

What do they actually eat?

Thanks Thanks : )

actually no..

clams are always found on the rocks in the wild. so placing them there would be the best place.

only reefers place them on the sandbed. in the wild they are anchored on rocks either on the sand, or on reef mounts.

if you place them on the sand it's also ok. but the clam will not be able to anchor itself. unless it's anchored on a rock, on the sand.

Thanks...the only issue placing them on the rocks in a captive tank is that they may fall off when the turbo snails move near or over them. I also want to refrain from using epoxy to stick them on the rocks.

  • 1 month later...

place mine maxima clam on the sand bed...no problem

The risk on sand bed is tendency pest like Bristleworm attacking their byssus by chance in long term.. better place on small rock with easy bond shape if on sand bed..

Ya, certain clam like Tridacna gigas found on sand bed in the wild due to the size, but they need some secure surface to grab prevent from attack... Cheers..
