Heat impact from LED units

Hi there,

Has anyone changed over from T5s or MH to LED units and noticed any impact to the temperature of your tank?

What lighting setup did you have before and after? Was you lighting enclosed in a hood? What did you use to regulate temp? Did you notice a drop in electrical expenses due to reduced watts usage from light setup and cooling requirements?

Did you notice any changes to evaporation?

Also, are there other LED units apart from the maxspect that uses the CREE LEDs available in Singapore?

If u do so some research here , many of us switch to led is due mainly to the energy saving from lower wattage, lesser heat being transfer into the water thus chiller kicking in less often saving more electricity.

I had my electricity bill reduce by about 40% before switching from MH previously.

As far as I know, par led and maxspec with a upgraded version uses creed led.

Do take note that there is a lot of heat produced from the circuitry, so unless you have active cooling, it can be detrimental in an enclosed hood. Open top concept will be fine.

Hi Keith

I started with usage of a 150W MH hanging over an open tank. Was using a chiller to keep the temp stable. Swopped to Maxspect LED. Reduction of heat, evaporation, wattage is a definite. No noticeable impact to the livestock in the tank.

For LED units, you can consider getting AI LED from US. Approx 950 for a 12 inch unit.

definitely see bill reduction. Was using 150w mh. Diy a 8 pc 10w led. I.ve decrease the current as it is too bright. new lighting consump rate drop by at least half of 150w. Chiller kicks in abt thrice every hr n run for 3mins. Yr room so cooling. U would not regret going to led.
