To me its the same thing.

Both Rheostat and Potentiometer r variable resistor. Used as voltage divider..

A potentiometer is a three-terminal resistor with a sliding contact that forms an adjustable voltage divider. A potentiometer can be used as a rheostat. One main terminal and the wiper terminal would be used.

A rheostat has two connections. One goes to one end of the track and the other goes directly to the wiper to vary the level of the source.
