Terence_SG
Dear reefers, I am confused on the availability of various carbon offered in the market. Thus, try to do a poll to help me decide from ur experience best performance with least phosphate leak. Look forward to positive response. Open for recommendation for other brands not listed above. SRC Member straydum Posted February 7, 2011 SRC Member Share Posted February 7, 2011 carbon will not control your phosphates, if you're looking for a media with the least phosphate leakage i would assume that you meant after phosphate absorption from your tank, then you should be looking at GFO, not carbon
SRC Member LaW Posted February 7, 2011 SRC Member Share Posted February 7, 2011 all carbon leaches phosphate, only depend on how much. different types/grades of carbon leaches differently. processing method and types of source used in questions determine the amount of phosphate leaches out. generally, those that leaches less phosphate are generally regarded as the better and more expensive ones. Quote If a man could beat his own fantasy. Then to only breed in captivity. Then its pointless. Genesis 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. Agree! Anyway I have also tried EHEIM freshwater carbon. In my experience, it's a relatively expensive freshwater carbon but the overall effect is good! (: no regrets! You can get the 1L packaging from Clementi 328 or Polyart. Just bargain one buck below retail and you should be good. Anyway, it needs hot water activation. So yup (: Quote Happy Reefing, Marc J. jand118
Bro U might want to check out Vertex Carbon , believed there's a short descript on Iwarna's thread. Hoped that helps !
SRC Member Bulldozer Posted July 10, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted July 10, 2014 Anyway, when you buy Carbon... Do you just add them into your Sump Tank Filter System ? By adding, will it change the entire equation of the current system and causes the fishes to suffer or shock ? I have 2 Packets of Carbon in my Sump Tank for the longest time. I guess it's time to change. I always have this thought that if I throw in New Carbon and remove the existing Carbon entirely..... my Fishes may fall sick. Correct me if I am wrong .... Noob I am. tofubox
Personally i feel the only problem u can get with carbon is over using more than the recommended amount. Its not as dangerous as biopellets though. And yes, just rinse the carbon and can put direct into the tank. If u follow the recommended amount, most likely u need to replace only once a month Quote I Love Stagsss

tofubox
Recommended amount is always subjective ... that's why I have been hesitating for the longest time on how much I should put in my 4ft Tank. ..... Or SHould I replace my existing Carbon Entirely ? Quote I Love Stagsss
SRC Member Bulldozer Posted July 10, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted July 10, 2014 Lol, bro, if thats the case, gonna be very hard for anyone to judge if u should change or how much to change U can still use above the recommended amount as well, if u think its necessary. But end of the day, u need to know what's the reason for using carbon in the first place in your tank, and than u can justify the amount required. Else just stick to recommended, and i would advise since u have 2 packets. change one this week, and another 2 weeks time. I personally just add a little bit more than the recommended each time since the recommended amount always looks so darn little in the net or reactor. OK Ok ..... I will try to add 'Yi Dian Dian' ... now and then
