Clam vs Calcium

Recommended Posts

is it possible to keep clam healthy without any calcium dosing?

thanks

Should be fine as long as you are able to maintain the Ca parameters.

how often do you water change?

i do app 15%, once a month

i do not measure my calcium level

anyone knows roughly how much calcium does a 15cm calm absorb?

thanks

You can only get the indication from your Ca test, if you measure a drop and even after water change, the Ca continue to fall, you will need to look into supplementation.

From my past experience, clams have certain growth cycle and during "accelerated" cycle, their calcium demands will be high. Clams demands for Ca will also be high before they reach their "adult" size. For example a 15cm Crocea may have lesser Ca demands than a 15cm Gigas.

Small Clam will demand more calcium and light water change will not be enough, I would suggest dozing Calcium, Alkalinity & Magnesium to maintain the water parameter in order, also feed or seed your tank with phytoplankton the clams will love.

The Pacific is my reef tank

Try to do a Ca and kh test before and after dosing Iwarna top-up, followed by another test the next day. It should give you an indication from there. ;)
