Hello Reefers

Does anyone know why the some area of the sand base became a layer of purple after I added Goodbye PO4. THe past reading of Phosphate of 0.25ppm has gone down to 0.03ppm. Thanks

Cheerio : )

OK..I may sound silly here answering to my own posting. Just want to share what Henry (Of Marine Life) has told me. Thanks Henry : )

The purplish sand is due probably to low PO4 which cause diatom to die off, thus exposing the coralline covered sand.

I have confirmed this as suggested by Henry by taking the top layer of purplish sand and swished it in a container filled with a little tank water. And the purplish layer came off as loose matters, confirming that it's cynobacteria.

To get rid of the purplish slime : Improve the internal flow which will help in getting rid of the redslime cyno.

If it did not go away and continue to grow, to apply the red\slime remover to eradicate them. For info, GoodBye PO4 does not cause the redslime to appear. It was probably a coincidence where the PO4 level has reached a point where redslime thrive.
