Hi, any bro here got any ways of removing the crabs.. without removing LR...and corals..

A very small 1 feet tank, no box tray can go in due to space constraint.

Any ideas like putting nets with bait for it to tangle.. dun wan to tangle my fish also..

I have speared 2 little crabs, now left 1 big and 1 small..

Tank Theme: Mixed Reef with clams

3 feet tank with IOS

Eheim 1262

Reefing is sharing. People with rotten mouth is sure a loser for life as expected. When a tomato gets rotten, you can nvr save it.. Throw it away before it infect the good ones.

Hi bro...

You may consider making use of Vitagen empty bottle as trap...

Crabs are very curious and like to explore new things inside the tank when the lights is OFF....

Tank : 3 x 2 x 1.8 ( setup end Feb 2014 ) --> 4 x 2 x 1.8 ( setup early Nov 2016 )
Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC6 --> Bubble Magus Curve 7
Return pump : Jebao 10000l/h ( down in 17th December 2014 ) --> Jebao DC-12000 ( 19th December 2014 )
Compressor drop-in coil
Wavemaker : Tunze 6105 x 1
Lights : Modular based DIY LED light x 4

Chaeto in the sump

LOL...so funny. I was looking at my hairy colleague when you posted this.

Omg, thats a very dangerous glance. Did he catch you looking at him or his..? It could be a very fatal attraction. Becareful all things hairy.

Furry or bushy is different all together. Dont be confused.

cheers

Saw some algae eaten and sad to say 1 sps ganna.. and my blue xenia also gone..

Bought my blue xenia at $15, now think left $1. Gone part by part every nite..

Going to spear it if he comes...

Spear 1 tiny 1 today.. using stainless tweezer.. using dropper to feed my sun coral then he comes out.. so use the dropper to lure it out. Then spear it... :rip:

Below is how I caught my hairy crab. The bottle is preferably glass so that it sinks. Besides sourcing one with a mouth can just fit your crab, look for one that's sufficient long. This is so that when crabby slides down to the base, it could not easily climb back out. Note: Pick a bottle with smooth surface. Leave it there overnight, & check in the morning. Replace bait if need be.

I believe cleaner shrimp will go for the trap too. Don't know about yours, but cleaner shrimps I kept are like pigs. They smell your food pellets on the LR or sand bed & approaches within the minute. However, cleaner shrimps are easier to catch if you have a net.

Option 1:

I've notice cleaner shrimps use their tails to shoot thru' the water when cornered & trying to make a quick escape. Position some food on top of your LR. Use net to scoop up shrimp when it tries to feed. Then house in beta box until crab is caught.

Option 2:

Position food at corner of tank on sand bed. Trap shrimp with net when it comes out to feed. Then house in beta box until crab is caught.

Note: If your fish net is small, You may net 2 nets to corner the shrimp.

Just found and dried one, while I was repositioning my monti. It crawled out from under the monti while I was holding it. Nearly made me drop the coral. Never knew it was there....

Just like to add in some points to increase the success rate for the capture for the "Evil Hairy"

Just captured mine on 31st of Jan 2011

Proven Method of capture

"The Evil Prawn Lure"

1st, try to locate the crab if possible by its hairy legs, i mean crab's hairy leg.

Off your main light or possible only blue lights, put a piece of prawn tie to a satay stick with a rubber band.

Position food in front of the crab. Try to move towards it, then play with it until it become angry and come out drag your whole bait.

Trap it with net when it comes out to feed. Then house it in the toilet bowl and flush it... and say bye bye..
