Moonlight, is it necessary

Hey reefers, any article or links on moonlights being used in a marine setup?

Is it true that it simulates night mode and if using the new PAR38 15W royal blue, is it an overkill?

i think 15w is too bright.. with or w/o moonlight should be fine. i seriously dont think it simulates night.. more of for us to look at the tank during night and maybe simulate full moon.

I remember doing a night dive, everything is pitch dark in the sea

I used it primarily to observe nocturnal behaviour int he tank.

i use it for aesthetic purposes.. looks good in the middle of the night.. other than that, i have not observed any significant differences, even though some websites claim to promote mating and spawning..

Ok thanks for the positive and interesting response. Will do more research if 15W is an over kill. Looking at the new PAR38 royal blue. 1w stimulates mating, imagine 15w??? orgy?
