Hi ,

I am a newbie planning to start a small marine tank...mainly fishes and some easy to keep corals.

I am thinking of getting the new JBJ 28 Nano LED or a CUBE Mini 80 ? Need your opinions on the two so that I can make an informed choice.

The quotes are get for th JBJ seems much cheaper that the CUBE Mini ( by at least $200) plus the size of the JBJ tank is bigger too. The only plus point I get after reading the forums is that the CUBE Mini may be more aesthetically nicer.

Please advise.

Hi stetan,

I had exactly the same dilemma as you did! What I did was to list down the pros and cons of each.

Cube Mini 80

Pros

  • Choice of colours for cabinet.
  • Larger sump tank.
  • No curved glass to distort viewing.
  • Able to mount vortech pump at the back of the tank.
  • Open top for easier evaporative cooling, I managed to maintain below 26.5 degrees using fans alone.
  • Able to customise the setup, example: choice of return pump, choice lighting option.
  • Better skimmer!

    Cons
    • Sump tank is small, very challenging to fit in refugium.
    • Glass to me is a tad too thin.
    • Sump is too small to fit bigger skimmer

      JBJ 28g Nano Cube LED

      Pros

      • All in one, all important equipment already provided.
      • Lights offer capability to be controlled independently.

      Cons

[*]Cabinet comes only in one colour.

[*]The material used in the construction of the cabinet will expand when moisture seeps in over time (happened in my JBJ 12g).

[*]The 4 metal rings just below th base of the tank will rust over time.

[*]Absolutely tiny space for skimmer, very little option for choice of a decent skimmer.

      [*]Closed canopy, heats up easily.

[*]The plastic hood covering the lights hazed up over time (happened in my JBJ 12g).

After doing my homework, decided to get
