dont use white sand...

no matter how u does your sand will turn yellow as time goes by

hmmm i was looking a large fish tank chingchai's and started wondering how he keep him sand bed so white and clean

keeping a white sandbed is very possible but tedious

1. your nuisance algae growth must be minimal which points to your water perimeters

2. weekly/fortnightly vacuuming of the sand bed is key to a pristine white bottom. most reefers (if i'm not wrong chingchai included) vacuum up the top layer which is covered with unsightly algae and replace it with a new layer of sand in order to maintain the whiteness

3. you can seek help from sand dwellers like sand gobys, sand dollars, snails etc but each comes with its pros and cons

Fill your sand bed will corals. that way, no need to worry about keeping the sand bed pearly white.

haha my tank is 4ft leh.. if fill everything up i can eat air already..

I got mine for ML too. the thing about sand dollars is their round and fat, therefore quite aload of corners or place with tight space they cant reach

try using sand star. Only crawls on sand an not on rocks .

And mostly active in the night .

i use trochus snails (i think they are) as well as nassa snails, they'll crawl all over my sand bed keeping it clean. sometimes i stir up the areas that look a little dirty as well.

U can use sand shifting sea star.. Cheap can get at coral farm...

ive like 2 cent dollar and a sand star on a 4ft tank which doesnt seem enough at all..

Seriously dont know how all the guys with big tank keep their sand so white.. impressive

Of course 1 shifting not enough... It can be one of the solution plus other snails or goby..

For me mine using one for my 3ft tank is good plus my snails.. And a good water parameter... Less algae...
