How do I tell the difference between FL and PL.. I want to keep live rocks but I just do not know if my lighting is suitable. I just do not know if its those plant lighting type.

Also, why do people always put UV type for their aquarium? Is it also for plants?

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

You do not need any lights to keep live rocks.

then how they survive?

one thing you gotta know:

you do not keep a planted marine aquarium :lol::lol:

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

Liverock means rocks that have baterial living on it. That's why it's called liverock.

No need light to "keep them alive"

I think you should go and read up on reef aquariums. No offense but you will find that it will be better and less confusing then shooting random questions here. :peace:

As to the LR question, they are called Live Rocks because of the nitrifying bacteria on the LR. These bacteria breaks down harmful ammonia and nitrite into less harmful chemicals. They do not require light to survive.

Those rocks with algae on it is commonly used in refugiums. Buy those without algae or tonga branches. And you would need STRONG lighting for marine tanks if you want to keep corals :lol::lol:

PL lighting is single ended double-joined-tube. Also refered to as PowerCompacts or PC.

FL is your normal double ended Fluorescent tube.

Get a bright PL lighting preferable above 10,000kelvin. Not so much as a necessity but for aesthethic reasons.
