i dont have experience with large angel, except bandit
AT did show some aggression for a few hours but now both live in harmony
sharing my experience in keeping AT, hope others can chip in too
1) wide swimming space, best >4 feet
2) strong waves, AT loves to swim against the wavemaker
3) due to 1 & 2, AT is always hungry, therefore required regular feeding
best 6-8 small feeding through out the day or a small red bamboo for them to graze
4) unless your tank is ich free, try not to keep another ich prone fish
eg PBT, else very difficult to control when there's an outbreak
everytime i add in a fish, any fish, there's an ich outbreak
that is why i seldom add fish
hope to see your AT soon

AT is a strong tang with high metabolic rate and need oxygen rich waters. in the wild, they are often seen grazing in surf zones with crashing waves. therefore a tank with strong flow and high oxygen saturation is undoubtedly good for an AT.

Dnsfpl tips on keeping AT are all very valid.

Bro as you mention everytime you add fish there'll be ich outbreak. It happens to me too. But what do You do ?

feed food soak in garlic guard

do more minor water change, siphon out all the detritus etc etc

imo 50l twice a week is better than 100l once a week

with good stable water parameter, everything will slowly fall into place

cheers

Will always have ich. Try adding another angel or butterfly and you will see a spike. It's a delicate balance maintaining ich in a system. Each time new fish come in, ich will attack a vulnerable host and escalate. Healthy fish which r "immune" will get a light outbreak but nothing serious. In time, if everything is healthy and ok, the new fish will resist and everything will no show signs. But cycle will repeat when new fish is added. That is why ich exists as a delicate balance. Adding fish slowly and little at a time can prevent severe losses. But try adding 3 ATs or PBTs at once now and I guarantee your old fish will suffer badly. Your practice is a fine example of keeping fish healthy without QT and many can learn from you. QTing everything will not have any ich, but is troublesome. This method of living harmoniously with ich is also possible, but you must be disciplined as you have shown.

"That is why ich exists as a delicate balance."

always wanted a bandit but my AT ich is detering me

after more than a year still the same, decide to gamble

surprisingly my AT ich condition gets better after adding the bandit

really need the right balance

it will definately cause an outbreak if i add any fish now

thankfully my fishy wishlist is empty :D

time flies, highlight of what happen last 3 months

water parameter went haywire when i removed my green monti colony, causing cyano outbreak

took a few weeks before everything returns to normal, but currently still have slight cyano issue

lesson learnt: must monitor water parameter when removing huge sps colony

hi bro, did it cause the cal, DKH and Mg to shoot up or probably an increase in other more evil parameters? Was thinking if a big growing monti is removed, think it will

likely cause excess of cal,

DKH and Mg? At the same time, I believe a healthy growing colony

could also have helped consume some of the nitrates and phosphates? Thanks for sharing this though. Good learning lesson to avoid. Hope the cyano will clear soon!

i notice when the tank condition is good

sps will grow in harmony, despite touching each other

when water parameter went haywire

sps unhappy, and will turn more defensive/aggressive

those "white" area will get bigger and algae make use of this opp to spread

that is the only possible reason i can think of now

Yes, I agree with dnsfl, I also have same observations. When I remove my miracle mud and clean up the sump, big impact to the bio filtration and suddenly sps that were growing well started stn, and acans bleaching, sps turn brown. Cynobacteria appears, hair algae grew fast. All happen within 5 days period. Put back new miracle mud, everything stablize and sps colours slowly coming back. Never underestimate what 5lbs of sand/mud can do to your tank. Always make small quantity removal at a time.

Cheers,

James
