Hello bros/sis

I am planning to convert my 5ft freshwater tank to a saltwater tank but the problem is mine is actually an IOUS tank and I can't place substrate that are too fine otherwise they will be sucked into the overflow compartment and my sump will be full of these substrate in no time.

Anyone here currently having such a setup and how do you guys overcome this problem? Place something to block the underflow compartment or use substrate of bigger sizes?

I am actually planning to use coral chips to block off the underflow but not too sure this method works or not. Anyone can share with me your experience?

Thank you!!!!!!
