Mixing clown tang with powder brown

Recommended Posts

I have an existing powder brown tang. I forgot that clown tangs are same genus as powder brown and hence purchased a very healthy feeding clown and when i floated the bag in tank last night, the powder brown immediately rushed forward to attack it. I still have the clown in the bag half-submerged in tank, with holes for oxygenation. I dare not release the clown into tank for fear of it being killed. I intend to buy a betta box later and keep the clown there for some time, hopefully the powder brown will get used to clown.

Any other suggestions?

Bro, trap yr pbt and put in a 2 compartment betta box and let them see each other. After lessen agression, release yr clown and 1 or 2 days later, release yr pbt. Make sure yr clown pass thr the stress stage. If yt clown is bigger and eating Luke pig, she shld pull thr. Other method is mirror. U can also try putting them into a Pail and do minor rock scape and later put in. Clown tang is not "fan fan zi bei", they used to whack my 2 big sohals. . All the best.

Your method may work.

Another method which I find very useful is bring out both fishes n keep in sump.(seperate of coz)

After a week or 2,catch both n release back to main tank!

Some1 doesn't 1 2 do anything find an excuse,some1 1 2 do something find a mean!

it depends on how big ur pbrt is. if it is bigger than your clown tang, it will whack till the crown mati. i added a hybrid pbt in my main tang, after 2 weeks add in my 1 yr old pbt. at first was fine. after 1 mth, hell broke loose, and the pbt whack the hybrid. somemore the hybrid is not newly bought. i keep the hybrid in another tang for 3 mths then add into the main tang. after awhile, hybrid become stress and refuse to eat. grow thinner and die off

Thanks for the above tips. I have placed the clown into the betta box and it is eating very well. The powder brown has stopped trying to peck at it and in fact seems to be ignoring it completely. It spent the whole of last night continuously trying to bite and cut the poor clown inside the bag, fortunately the plastic bag protected the clown. The clown is actually 50% bigger than the powder brown. I will prob keep the clown in betta box for another day or two to ensure that they get used to each other more. Hope it works out.

Should have been more alert to the scientific names of the fish; didn't know that they belong to the same genus, but they look so different! Ordinarily I would not have risk such compatibility issues as I had to tolerate watching a very beautiful and feeding Powder Blue get killed by that Powder Brown just 2 mths ago.
