Clownfish, anemone and leather

I just got my first coral, and was thinking whether the clown will take to it. So far it hasnt but what if next time there are more corals n he starts disturbing them? tat wouldnt be very good!

So do u guys think its good to add in an anemone now for him so that he can get married and stick to it first?

Clowns can jump ship easily if there is a more prefered host. They love Euphyllia spp. corals and sometimes take to it over an anemone.

I am terrible with scientific names, but is that a plate coral?

Euphyllia ancora = Anchor coral

E. divisa = Frogspawn

E. glabrascen = Torch

Plate is either Heliofungia actiniformis and Fungia spp.

I've been told that mixing anemone with other corals might endanger the latter esp. those that move - particularly more so in a small tank. So I guess I will stick to Euphyllia.

my clownfish seem to hate my fireshrimp and charges him everytime he sees him - i wonder y....any of u guys had the same experience?

My guess: the clownfish is protecting its territory.

#1. the clownfish "attack" the fireshrimp, when the shrimp wander near the clownfish?

#2. do u hv a group of clownfish? protecting the eggs

#3. attack the shrimp whenever the clown saw it?

hmmmm the fireshrimp stays upside down hanging from the bottom of the rock just beside the clownfish... when he starts to move out onto the sand/climb on top of the rock, the clownfish rushes out at him! bad fish!

My current clownfish has killed 2 Jewels and taken to a spotted branch as host.

Even if you put in ten anemones, they may not like it. They can jump ship easily.

So a single clownfish (which is by the way female) is like a SPG right? jumps ships all the time.

Check anemone compatability for Ur clown and get that one.To what I've read, only one anemone is able to live in the tank. Unless Urs is more than 100gl.

Guys, clowns DO NOT need an anemone to survive in a marine tank.

Keeping anemones may not be easy for some people as they may lack good water quality and ample lighting. Because anemones need to be fed, they tend to grow extremely quickly. Because they also move about alot and expand to many times it's size to get as much light as possible.... you will find problems with them ie. stinging corals, blocking light from corals, disrupting water flow, devouring fishes etc.

If you do not provide anemones for your clowns, they will find suitable hosts eg. Euphyllia sp. corals etc. Undoubtedly, they tend to irritate corals to the point where they do not open, causing their demise.

I have a maroon clown that has taken a fox coral as a host. Luckily this coral doesn't mind the constant contact with my clownfish.

It may be easier to remove a clownfish than an anemone. Doing so often entails damaging it or killing it as they can be very very stubborn in releasing their foothold.

Trust me when I say anemones are more trouble than they look.
