Prevent rust on hinges

hi bros and sis, ne one has ne idea or suggestions to prevent ur hinges from rusting? m tinkin of doing it to prevent my hinges from rusting...the last time i heard was to use fingernail paint...


Main tank: 4.5 x 2.5 x 2
Skimmer: Deltec AP701
Return pump: RD 6
Chiller: Daikin compressor with Titanium coil
Wavemaker: Jebao w-20, Maxspect Gyre xf150

Lighting: 8x54 ATI Sunpower Non-dimmable

Linked tank
Main tank: 2 x 1 x 2
Return: Eheim 1260
Lighting: AI Hydra 26 with controller
Wavemaker: Tunze 6025

use wat paint also no use de bro.

Can temporary prevent cannot permanent prevent.

Out of so many ways,the best way I still find applying grease on it works.

But of coz there bound to have times where it will accidently kana your hand when doing things.

Some1 doesn't 1 2 do anything find an excuse,some1 1 2 do something find a mean!

Try applying Vaseline. Dismantle the whole hinge and give it a good coat including the screws before fixing it back.

Vaseline can be found in Supermarket...

Go to hardware shop and ask for anti-rust oil or something like that... dunno if it works... Saw it at some hardware shop before...

if u r looking at minimizing the process or slow down,yes!

Paint or what so ever can be apply.

Problem with us now is we dun1 to keep doing maintainence work on those hinges u c.

Even with stainless steel hinges sprayed,they still corrode when meet with seawater. :)

Yup, one of the many uses of vaseline.

Beside the uses stated in the link above, vaseline can be used to prevent silicone from sticking to your fingers.

i uses spary on silicone grease on my hinges and my fishing equipment... so far so good... just spray on the hinges as and when u feel like it....

Corrosion is a natural event. You can only delay it, not prevent it. Vaseline or oil regularly.

You can also consider getting high-quality stainless hinges and screws.

normal stainless steel item sold in the market like fork,spoon I'll say they r made of 316 stainless steel.

So for the hinges as well.

If u looking for high quality type I dun think there's any available in the market.

Anyway even the pure stainless Steel(302) rust when contacted with seawater after sometime.

So conclusion: the only way is to grease it,maintain it n when time to change,change regularly :)

I know it's W <something> 40 ( can't remember right now)... on the hinges.. it's in a spray can so what I did was spray it on a piece of cloth away from the tank and then rubbed it on my hinges and then open up all the cabinet doors to let the tank "air" a while... :P of course I stood by to make sure "quick hand quick feet" to pick up any fish which MAY jump during the time of "airing".. :P

You can get it at the DIY shops. :)

Maybe you got imitation product so it read wB40. frequent oiling will prevent rust. the problem is such manual touch points tends to become infrequent over time so rust sets in... pinch.gif

Info for u guys,it's $9.50 per pc.

Bought 6pcs in total. Can tell the quality quite good wan no looks like those cheapo type! :)
