Hi all..

Need some recommendation. planning to get a wavemaker soon. The tank has already surface movement with the return pipe outlet from return pump eheim 1264. the left corner in the picture is the overflow and underflow. I want to create some undertow and water movement between the dead spot behind and infront the LR/corals(dark grey patch) as shown in picture. Is a single mp40(in yellow) able to do this ? or should i get with tunze 3095+6055. Please advise. Can refer to my simple diagram.

hi have u ever think of using a T-joint for your return?

so that u can have surface movement and a jet of water straight down from the return.

rest of the area think MP 40 will be able to take care of it.

hi.thanks. the return is branch out from a single pipe on the tank bracing. the one nearest to the front has less flowrate than the one at the back. with the overflow movement and the return flow pipe meet together it gives a good surface movement. the return has 2 elbow sticking immersed in the water ..dun wish to add a longer pipe in.

Hi Bro Topic,

Firstly i like to commend your illustration, very well presented for discussion. Must say that this is a very responsible way of seeking views and opinion

Unfortunatly, at this stage, it is not easy to come to a final conclusion on the amount/type of wavemakers needed to meet your needs. Reason being your addition of corals on the LR will have a dynamic shift in the wave pattern, making it difficult to pin down a final wave maker positioning. Also the types of corals eg. sps will need some flow consideration as well.

But if this picture you shown here is the current silute and assuming no sps, then I would suggest that you might need two MP40 on the same tank panel, but equally spaced across the width, your current height placement of the mp40 looks fine to me.

If you have quite a fair bit of sps, then it will be a different ball game altogether. You will probably need to look at the types of sps and where they are placed in your LR before a proper flow management can be determine.

Hope it helps.

Cheers :friends:

Do u know for your tank size, with 1264 is already not very sufficient liao.

By making split end to have 2 output will eventually suffer more head lost.

For me I'll do with 1 output then the rest let the wavemaker do the job.

Some1 doesn't 1 2 do anything find an excuse,some1 1 2 do something find a mean!

Bro, can only advice wat wave maker can support yr tank as placement depends on wat u keep and rock scape. Still need few try and error. U will definitely need mp40 or mp60. However, vortex can't adjust angle and u got to depend on it's spread, hence got it's limitation. Saw u mentioning 6055 which can't support yr 5 ft length but can support yr width and will not be too strong(moreover adjustable). Also think of the overall look. . Hehe. Happy trying.

the rockscape you intended to scape might have some dead spot in it too... you must remember it too...

when you scape that time make sure u have lobangs or gap in that structure if not there are very less water flow

Hi.thanks.the two output create quite a movement on my water surface. the output nearer one the front of the glass tank is just a bonus while the other elbow a the other end is the main one..Anyway its configurable as the piping are line against my bracing if i decide to change. 1264 is IMO enough for my tank as i have been running it for quite sometime.

Bro, thanks for the kind comments. My concern is just to get some turnover and movement of water at the middle and bottom area so detritus not accumulated at the same time add some movement to the water.thats all.

thanks! i understand vortech as a wider flow thats why i consider the placment there. Vortech flowrate is adjustable right? i did consider 6105 and 6101...some older model of tunzes seems to be an eyesore in the tank but the new smaller ones doesnt come cheap either. I prefer to have something blending in the tank...and of course price is impt too.

hi! thanks for the input. The rockscape is already done in but maybe adding more in future. The tank has been running for quite a while now so unlikely more movements of the LR. will take note for the water flow in the structure which shouldnt be a problem

Yup, mp40 is adjustable but do note it killed my 2 fishes, one I stopped it and a curious mystery went in and the other, a wrasse got shock and dashed in(mr using minimum flow due to space constraint and minimize vibration. If yr length current is there, then 6055 or those non controllable one can do the job cos u still need a controller for controllable wavemaker. Can settle with 6025, 6045 etc for width death spot. . For vortec, the wire is exposed externally and u got to secure it in case it dropped. If yr viewing is front with side covered, aesthetic not an issue, if not, by placin the vortec in the middle look a bit off depending on the owner style. Since yr rockscape up, can test but must borrow equipment. .
