Why no eel discussion?

Hi,

Considering new to reefing, I wonder why there isn't any discussion about eel. Is it unsafe or dangerous to us or our set-up to keep eels in our aquarium. Actually, I just bought 1 small snow flake. Within 1 day it flew out of my tank. Really scared to pick it up but still manage to. Tried feed with prawn meats but to no avail. Also worry that it'll bite me when i clean my tank. Should I sell it back. Advise from those with experience keeping eel before are much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Reply to your thread.

Coz if u keep eel in tank, mostly majority of the fishes u can't keep already as most of the eel can out grow alot of fishes we keep in tank n hence they will eventually becomes it's food :)

Most people keep eel dun keep other fishes.

Not only for eel. Frogfish, lionfish n stonefish etc eat fishes that can fit into their mouth.

Oh. Ok. Does this mean only 1 thing. My eel has to go away. But before I let it loose, I've never seen it try to eat on any of my fish, even when the fish swims on front of it. In fact it just fascinating to see it glides through the rocks. Anyway my biggest problem now is it does want to eat no matter what I tried. So far had tried brine, mysis, prawn and very small white fishes that can bought at ntuc.

Hi Bro, you can keep garden eel.. they are of the right length and pretty...try google it.. very easy to keep... i kept it my nano tank..it'll eat anything you feed it with...etc Pallet, shrimps, bllod worm... as longs as it shifted towards it's direction.. i noted eels will not start eating during the first 2 - 3 weeks.. not to worry ... as long as it as mature tank with plenty of live sand and rocks... it'll be taken care ...

they dun eat infront of u doesn't mean they dun eat.

Sometime they tends to hunt when the lights off etc.

It's just a matter of time for your eel to consume all the fishes.

There might be some eel that r friendly to others fishes which I dunno la but for me,best is dun risk... :)

That's y I'll like to emphasized again.

Marine LS combination is very important.

Each time u intro 1 item wrongly into tank, your pocket will burn each time. :)

yes agreed have a baby snowflake with me eats like a pig

I feed it sliverfish,dried prawns

anyway try to cover your tank cus they are very good jumpers

Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.

If you really love eels, get an Enchelycore pardalis.

Thanks to all that share ur knowledge and experiences. Anyway, for now my eels are still in the tank. Cannot catch them with all the corals and rocks in it. Anyway, it's true that the snowflake is good jumper. Already jump on its first day. Very scary experience to catch it back on the floor. For now both starts to eat once I dip a prawn meat in the tank. As for fatality for my fishes, so far none that I've seen. FYI the other eel that I have is zebra. Love to see they move
