Croceas Clam Shell "Openning-Up" - Dying ?

Hi Bros !

I got two (2) Croceas Clams today...was packed together in one plastic bag. When I open it up, one of the Croceas Clams "flesh" was slightly curled-up....and the clam shell was open.

Quite different for the second clam...its shell was closed. When I put them into my tank...the one with its shell closed was reacting beautifully.

:( However, the "suspected" clam had its "flesh" curl-up inside the shell more and more....and the shell was openning MUCH wider and wider.....what happen ?

Q1) Can someone care to teach and advise me what is the cause and possible remedial actions ?

Q2) Any potential fatality if the clam "die" inside the tank....while I am away to work ?

Thanks with warmest regards,

Martin :bow::thanks:

Sorry Bros ! Not sure how to post pictures......Computer Idiot ! Thanks for your interest to help anyway!

The shell open even bigger now...and its flesh curl-in even more. But when I touch its flesh gently....it shrinks a little....but outlook of the clam doesn't look good. How to prevent it from really dying ?

Can someone advise based on description written on openning thread ? I wish to save the clam if possible.

Have fun in coming new year...Cheers!!!

The clams' flesh (mantle) was curled up...can't see if there is any tear....? Could it be "stunk" by fellow clams when it was packed together ?

I will check its "buttok" on whether there is any big hole tmr. If there is a hole, what does it mean ? How to treat them over such "shell open big-big" and mantle "curl-up till it is inside its shell" ?

Thanks...in advance ! :thanks:

Clams don't "sting" . That clam could be already unhealthy when u bought it.. I think there is nothing u can do about it .

The big hole should not be a problem, I do not know the name but the hold at the bottm is for it to attach itself to a rock, once injured during extraction of the clam, the survival is slim... So, just be more careful if you choose your lifestock!! :)
