RedSea Coral Pro Salt Review

I managed to lay my itchy hands on the new red sea coral pro salt at the Marine Reef Exhibition held recently at IMM organized by Singapore Reef Club.

Myself, not really a reef whiz nor a reef whiz in water chemistry do not really like the idea of calculating salt concentrations, salanity or elements that are found in the mixing of salt.

For my current tank, a 50gal community mixed reef, i started my tank with salt mix, water changes were followed weekly or bi-weekly depending on my schedule with trips to LFS lugging back jerry cans of saltwater.

The only downside i have using NSW, is the little concentration of calcium and magnesium that NSW has. Phospate levels could also be evident on the higher side when NSW is used.

As I often use NSW for my water changes weekly, lacks the display of the purple colouration of rocks also known as Coralline Algae (Corallinaceae in the Red Algae Family).

Reading through online reviews and comments on the RedSea Coral Pro Salt, evidence of higher concentration of Calcium (Ca) and Magnesium (Mg) is found.

My aim in making the switch from using NSW to RedSea Coral Pro Salt mix is to have improve amounts of Ca and Mg which hopefully leads to the accelerated growth of Coralline algae.

Do note the interesting "cable tie" to prevent moisture from entering the plastic which usually clumps the salt.

The retail price for the 22kg salt is $ 138.00, for the 7kg i am not so sure yet... maybe someone can advise ?
