You are diying lights for reefers and you do not know whats a capacitor for???

A capacitor is necessary to set the steady state working frequency by storing up energy. This ensures the reliability of the power supply meaning constant...

hi bro,

thats a very nice comment........ <_< thats why reefers approach u to diy their lights rite?

when i diy lights, i will include the capacitor......but for this fixture, its stange that the factory fitiing does not include the capacitor....there should be a theory behide it.

since u are so smart, can u explain why??? <_<

To lower production cost? The capcitor is built into the ballast? The Designer blur fuc@? etc etc... 101 reason, how anyone know? why dont you write in to the manufacturer and ask?

How to answer your question when never seen the actual thing? Is it a standard ballast? electronic one? etc etc....

hi bro,

this is a china brand MH(dont want to reveal the brand).......and it is using magnetic ballast.....with an ignitor only.

how much can they save cost by not using an capasitor? very strange..... <_<

now i need to get a capasitor myself...... <_<

The capacitor in this case is a shunt capacitor, its connected parallel to the power source and used for correcting the power factor. Magnetic ballast often have a low powerfactor resulting in greater power consumption due to its inductive nature.

Having a shunt capacitor will greatly reduce the amount of current drawn by the ballast
