why do you want the cleaner shrimp in the first place? Even if the hawkfish doesn't pommel it (only applicable to some), the boxer shrimps will do the job.

I would just stick to your 2 coral banded shrimps and hawkfishes. Cleaner shrimps don't rate tt highly in my tank anyway.

bro boxers quite aggressive right?

hmm ya once seasoned in tank(cleaner shrimps) = tough to catch=disturb corals by snatching their food=doesn't "clean" your fishes anymore they're just shrimps...

Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.

The boxers weren't my purchase, my dad mistook them as cleaners and bought. Wanted to get cleaner shrimps as my fish keep pestering the boxers/coral banded to clean them.

Also, I did not know they were predators. Could they be the reason why my firefish kept dissapearing? O.o

Hi all,

Should I risk buying a Cleaner Shrimp and putting it in with my Hawkfishes? The two coral-banded shrimp so far are fine, wondering if Cleaners will survive.

Thanks!

Get a big cleaner. Small onces will not make it. I have 2 fire and 2 cleaner and 1 flame hawkfish....use to have 2 hawkfish before my carpet ate one.

Boxer shrimps also perform cleaning duties in the wild. In your tank, they are just so much more fun to watch than cleaner shrimps imo.

Although cleaner shrimps will set up cleaning stations initially, once they get used to captivity, they will most likely be racing for pellets or anything you drop into the tank to your frustration. Not only do they not 'clean' your fishes anymore (which isn't a cure for ich in the first place), they will start stealing food from your corals. Like I said, you are much better off with your coral banded shrimps now.

And coral banded shrimps do not eat or attack fish. That's a terrible misnomer.

Hmmm. I've read a lot of horror stories about boxer shrimp online... And witnessed one of them nipping my algae blenny.

I guess there's no such thing as never, but it's rare to see a boxer attack healthy fishes. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but you can monitor them for the next few days to see if yours are indeed a 'mike tyson' shrimp ;)

thanks!

In the case of them really being terrors, how do I get rid of them?
