Hi bro n sis... not sure if this is the right place to put this post..

i'm having a about 2 ft tank n faces many challenges in regards to space n running of equipments. My idea of this post is to ask u all to share how u run ur tank effectively n efficiently. in design n all..

just hope that we can save some $ n some back pain..

If you have a sump, you can run display tank water -> sump -> Filter socks from Aqua Fanua -> live rocks (1st compartment) -> carbon -> biohome (2nd compartment) -> chaeto -> skimmer -> main pump to display tank.

If you are not using a sump, you can use external canister with biohome and filter wool / carbon and use a hang on skimmer e.g: http://freshnmarine.com.sg/estore/index.php?cPath=61_307 or http://freshnmarine.com.sg/estore/index.php?cPath=61_307 depending on your budget (or look for 2nd hand in pasar malam in SRC which is cheaper and item still can be in use).

using fan instead of chiller for nano tank

evaporating problem? Use distilled water for

toping up, Cheap distilled water from NTUC.

Lesser fishes = Lower nutrient = less equipment needed

such as skimmer etc

Nano tanks = less equipment, more water changes

I'm running a 2 footer FOWLR at home.

Daily live stock feeding.

I top up 1.5 liters every couple of days to deal with evaporation.

Week end filter wool replacement + skimmer cup cleaning + additive.

Monthly water change.

Quarterly carbon & PhosGuard media replacement.

That's about it.

I assume u are not running a chiller based on ur evaporation rate? Can i just ask in this case are you keeping any shrimps?

Since u mention adding additives, how well do u think carbon and phosguard works for u if u are only keeping fish, u might wan to cut down on media purchase replacement since u already consistently changing water and wool.

Advise on the salt brand u are using since u are only keeping fowler?

Can you post a photo of your tank and surrounding? We can only advise so much since u already have ur tank, unless u are talking abt re-design your tank then it will be a whole diff story.

will do my part of sharing in awhile.. what i would like to achieve here is for all of us with nano tanks to share knowledge of achieving the best possible water parameter n condition with min equipment n cost. In this way, all will benefit n enjoy.

maybe u can say.. in search of a low cost n min effort perfect tank...

Can't really tell, it's been a while since I last check my nitrate/nitrite levels. Maybe I'll change my media bag less often.

Just ran out of CoralLife salt.

so far what i knw of ah beng corallife salt is the cheapest,3 packs at $65.

u can run a sulphur beads in a 1.5l coke bottle, solve all e nitrate prob but of cus initially u still have to kick start the system.

Have wool filter is already reducing the diatom growth on glass, however for best effect run the pump in the main tank, but i dun tink many pple can do tht as my tank hv no fish.

what lights r u using ?

generally there is only lower/higher cost or effort, if u intend low cost n min effort, by then it probably kill ur interest to buy more stocks

orh..

Currently, i'm having a SH small tank with corals that are SH friendly. the tank is place next to a window. Water is skim from the surface n bottom to a mini sump in my main tank to canister, chiller n back to tank. external filtration is employed to reduce the maintenance of the canister. hang on skimmer is used too. Do note that no pumps is immerse in water.. hence reduce heat.

behind the mini sump is my refugium(facing the window) where my chaeto grows too. sunlight is used to keep my refugium alive. so i don't hv to switch on any light. SH loves to stay around the corners waiting cope to come out.. haha..

my water parameters(last measured) is

NO2 = 0

NO3 = 5

PH = 8

PO4 = 0.05

currently using T8 2x 15 watts tube, which lighted up for 6 hours per day. am thinking of changing to LED to further reduce cost. what do u all think? not sure if LED is good enough for corals like mushroom.

everyday, i spent about 10 mins cleaning up filters and rest of the time, feeding and playing with SH. like the way it wraps it tail round my finger.

how often do u change the t8 bulbs? i think if t8 maintain the live stock well its better nt to burn ur pocket another hole..

ur setup is on a metal rack i guess?

i see u have a sump, n also a seperate refugium, i can say tht ur pods growth is mainly from the canisiter.

Can u say abt ur skimmer brand?
